Castlegate Arts releases powerful video for Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign

PRESS RELEASE: ABERDEEN ARTS CENTRE

Castlegate Arts – the charity behind the campaign to Save Aberdeen Arts Centre – has released a video highlighting the importance of the Centre to the people of Aberdeen and beyond.

*

The impactful four-minute video shares stories from members of the community and the trust they place in Castlegate Arts to stand up for grassroots arts in the north east of Scotland.

*

Young carers, passionate volunteers and professionals who got their start on the Arts Centre stage all feature in the emotive video.

Eve Nicol, programming and creative director, said: “Castlegate Arts has been the custodian of Aberdeen Arts Centre since 1999, championing grassroots arts in the north east of Scotland for over 25 years.

“We’re in the midst of a new strategy, with a professional team already making the venue more sustainable, welcoming, and community-led. Local groups trust Castlegate Arts to support their work on stage and behind the scenes. We are proud to be trusted with that responsibility.

“We’re not asking to be rescued. We’re asking for backing to keep building stability and sustainability, and to continue our trusted, valued approach of creating space for Aberdeen’s people to be seen, heard and celebrated.”

Aberdeen Arts Centre is an independent arts venue and registered charity in the heart of Aberdeen. For over 60 years, it has played a crucial role in the north east’s vibrant arts scene through its programme of performances, Creative Learning Programme for children and adults, and an Artist Development Programme to support local professional creatives.

In May 2025, the centre launched the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign – a three-year fundraising drive to raise £660,000 to secure its future. Individuals and corporate sponsors can find out more – and donate – at https://www.aberdeenartscentre.com/save-aberdeen-arts-centre.

Aberdeen Arts Centre – operated by Castlegate Arts – encompasses a 350-seater auditorium; café bar; flexible spaces for performances, events, exhibitions and meetings; and the Children’s Theatre, opened by Catherine Hollingworth in the 1950s as a pioneering youth theatre (the first of its kind in the UK) and now used as a vital resource for professional artist development.
