FAQ

What is Dungeons and Dragons?

Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game. In the words of the official publisher:

‘In Dungeons & Dragons, the players form an adventuring party who explore fantasy worlds together as they embark on epic quests and level up in experience. The Dungeon Master (also known as the DM) is the game’s referee and storyteller. There’s no winning or losing in D&D—at least, not in the conventional way.’ – What is D&D | Dungeons & Dragons (wizards.com)

Our D&D events are inclusive spaces and the Dungeon Masters will create campaigns that are enjoyable for all.

Who can attend?

This event is suitable for people aged 16+.  You must book a ticket to help our event organisers prepare for the event, and so we can send you important information before the day.

*

How long will the session be?

This is a day-long event with a break for refreshments, running from 09:30-17:00. Your actual gaming session will last 5 hours. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day, or you can bring your own.

Do I have to be an expert in the rules to come and play?

No, we’re beginner friendly. But please try to familiarise yourself with the rules before you come along, even if you play against yourself. If you are a beginner there will always be people to help you out on the day and answer your questions. However the less time we spend explaining rules, the more time you can spend playing monster bashing adventures! https://www.dndbeyond/sources/basic-rules

Do I need to bring my own dice/ rulebooks/ etc?

Yes – please bring your own sets of RPG dice. Dice sets can be picked up very cheaply online or at friendly local gaming shops, and should include a D4, D6, D8, a couple of D10s, D12, and most importantly a D20. You should also bring the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Player Handbook (hardcopy or digital is fine), and in the previous section there is a link to the basic rules available as a download from Wizards of the Coast, which should be enough to get you going.

Do I have to make my own character, or will I be provided one?

You will be creating your characters on the day; the first 45 minutes of the event will be your “Session Zero”. We encourage you to think in advance about what sort of character you wish to play and come along to with a couple of different ideas.

The first 45 minutes of the session will be allocated to character creation and filling out your character sheet, including rolling for character stats. Characters will be created at Level 5 using only the options available in the Player Handbook: no other sourcebooks or Unearthed Arcana can be used.

A selection of pre-generated character sheets can be provided should you wish them.
