One fabulous thing about Twitter is that it helps you find like minded people, or bands.  Having seen my recent tweets about Skylights I was followed by an English band called Maze.  They messaged to say they had supported Skylights in London so I gave them a listen and liked what I heard.  Apparently some good things did come out of lockdown as the band came together through a whatsapp group back in the pandemic.

Maze are a dynamic five piece band hailing from London with influences including Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and The Stone Roses to name but a few. After having released their first couple of singles, the band quickly gained a lot of attention. Their debut album, “Chaos Interrupted,” released in May 2022, has amassed over 100,000 streams on Spotify. Maze’s live performances have become legendary, capturing the hearts of audiences nationwide. The band has toured extensively, gracing stages across the country sharing the spotlight with established acts like Toploader, Dodgy, Space and The Farm.

Maze has solidified their reputation as an exciting live act that delivers an electrifying experience. Their inclusion in prominent festivals such as Shiiine On, alongside iconic bands like Happy Mondays, Ash, and the K’s; as well as the Indie Sheffield All-Dayer featuring notable acts like The Chase and Tom Meighan; and the Priory live festival, further demonstrates their growing popularity and recognition within the industry.  The summer of 2023 saw them support Skylights and Marseille before having their first London Headline show at the iconic Dublin castle which sold out in 24 hours!

The creative journey for Maze does not end with their debut album. The band is currently hard at work, crafting new material that promises to elevate their sound to even greater heights. As they delve into uncharted musical territories, Maze aim to push the boundaries and challenge conventional norms. With their unwavering passion and dedication to their craft, fans can eagerly anticipate a fresh wave of mesmerizing melodies that will captivate their senses.

Their latest single is Passage of Time which sounds similar to the songs of the 90s which I love.  The most repeated lyric is “all I really wanted to know is how you sleep at night” and I’m sure we’ve all felt that way when our love has been rejected.  In a recent interview I watched on Youtube Gary was saying that its their favourite song to sing live, with people clapping along with the introduction and they love the interaction.

The band consists of: Gary Davis on lead vocals, Paul Hancock and Paul Bassom on guitar, Ben Rutherford on bass and Martin Gamby on drums.  I’ve been chatting online with Paul and Gary and they seem like sound lads, would be great if they could get a gig up this way so I can experience them live.  Certainly worth checking out if you were a fan of the music of the 90s, and if you are in London they are playing The Water Rats in February.
