A review from 5D Music & Theatre writer Maria Robertson.

This tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap is celebrating 70 years of the production.  It has been going for longer than most of us have been alive!  Strangely then, this was the first time I’ve seen The Mousetrap.  I was convinced I had seen it before and was trying to remember “who done it”.  Having now watched it I realised it was all new to me and I had not seen it before; which is always a good thing with a murder mystery, as you do not want spoil the end.

Adam Spigel is behind this version and it’s directed by Ian Talbot and Denise Silvey.  Included in the advertising speel is the fact that Todd Carty (Grange Hill) and Catherine Shipton (Hollyoaks) are in it.  The whole cast are captivating though not just the known names from the television.  My own favourite was Shaun McCourt who plays Christopher Wren.

The story follows a young couple the Ralstons, played by Rachel Dawson and Michael Lyle.  Mollie has inherited a beautiful old house in the South of England and they decide to run it as a guest house.  The story finds them on opening the night when they have various guests come to stay including Christopher Wren and Major Metcalf (played by Tod Carty). The gathering is slightly overcast by hearing news of a murder in London, a murder which turns out to be linked to the address in which they are us spending the evening.

As for “who done it”… well, you will just need to go and see for yourself!  As with most Agatha Christie storylines, the ending may not be quite as you expect.
