The Demonlords’ Hordes nearly destroyed us, and now we await the next Horde that may finish off the races of man in Utverden. The System
Castle Ultima is a fantasy roleplaying game based on the OSR philosophy and based on the tried and tested d20 style of games. If you are familiar with any version of the world’s most popular roleplaying game, then you’ll already know how to play Castle Ultima.

Four races: Humans, Dwarves, Elves and the mysterious Deivuhl.
Four classes: Warriors, Mages, Engineers, and Adventurers.
Twenty professions: including sorcerers, jesters, thieves, assassins and bards.

Over 50 spells that are available to more than simply Mages, and include rituals and alchemy.

The Setting
Nearly half a century ago, the three races of man discovered a Portal to another world, Utverden. At first, it seemed like the land of milk and honey, and thousands of settlers flocked to this new world. Then, they discovered the Hordes of orcs, goblins, ogres and trolls. The Hordes are controlled by the Demonlords who, true to their name, summon demons from the aetheric realms to wreak havoc on Utverden. Fortunately, the races of man discovered the Deivuhl, mysterious catlike creatures who have battled the Demonlords for longer than many care to remember. Now, the fragile alliance must band together to save the world.

The Demonlords seek control of the Portal to invade the homeworld of man and spread their fel corruption to another world. They almost succeeded twenty-five years ago when the Horde broke through the walls of Castle Ultima, the fortress that protects the Portal. Now, the Portal lies in ruin, and those on Utverden are trapped here. The Demonlords raise new Hordes of monsters as fast as they can recruit them, and Castle Ultima bears the brunt of these assaults more often than she needs to. The next Horde to besiege the great Castle may be the one that breaks through and gives control of the Portal over to the Demonlords.

It’s up to you to find what is needed to rebuild the Portal so that reinforcements from the old-world can come through. You are the last hope for those living in Utverden.
