Electric Eel Shock shortened to EES, was formed in 1994 and are celebrating 30 years of playing their garage rock, hard rock, and heavy metal to the many fans they have made worldwide.

This is their first tour in Europe since 2019….

EES apparently decided not to make demos and send them to music companies as many bands do to begin with.  Instead they produced their own albums and over the years have crowdfunded a few as well.

The three-piece band consist of Akihito Morimoto (guitars and vocals), Kazuto Maekawa (bass) and Gian (drums).

Having seen them play at least twice before it was a no-brainer to go and see them celebrate this milestone.   The band are very talented musicians but also very comedic in their shows pulling silly faces and cracking jokes – especially Aki.

The drummer Gian plays naked apart from a very massive sock on his private parts, he has been arrested and fined in Hong Kong when the sock once fell off!  He plays the drums with four drumsticks…

I was looking forward to the show with great anticipation of a fun time.  Aki takes to the stage and finds a pair of glasses left behind by a member of the support band and puts them on along with another pair of glasses, the comedy has started already, and the show hasn’t.

My favourite song of the night was the sing along to “Bastard“.  Aki says “you bastard” and the crowd all shout back “no you bastard”. Aki then points to the bass player and says “no he new bastard” and explains he is standing in for Kazuto!  He has family commitments but the crowd are assured they do not need to worry, as this guy is much better, but costs much more so please buy loads of merchandise to pay him!

Aki points at his Motley Crew t shirt and says “we love 80s rock” and then they play their homage “so much 80’s”. They are touring celebrating new album “Heavy metal black belt“.  This is their first album in 7 years but Aki jokes “don’t worry it was done by other musicians than us”!  They play a couple of tracks from the album which all go down well.

These three guys are one of the best live acts around, don’t just look at the comedic side of it, they are extremely talented musicians.
