Some artists leave an impression with their music. Lewis Capaldi, for me, has also left a trail of moments that seemed to coincide with history itself. I’ve seen him live three times before today, and each concert has been followed by something unforgettable.
*
The first was on March 15, 2020, at P&J Live in Aberdeen. The arena was packed, the energy electric, and nobody could have predicted what was coming next. Just one day later, Scotland banned mass gatherings as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Capaldi’s show ended up being the city’s last major concert before lockdown — a night that suddenly carried far more weight in hindsight.

The second time was on January 23, 2023, again in Aberdeen. That evening, Capaldi made history by selling 14,951 tickets, making it the highest-selling indoor show in Scotland.

The third was at Glastonbury in June 2023. His performance was heartfelt, powerful, and at times difficult to watch as he visibly struggled on stage. Just weeks later, Capaldi announced an indefinite break from touring to focus on his mental and physical health. It was a brave decision — and one that made that Glastonbury performance feel all the more poignant.

Looking back, each time I’ve seen Lewis Capaldi live, it hasn’t just been a concert. It’s been a turning point, both for him and, in some ways, for the world around us.

And now it’s 2025. After his surprise Glastonbury set earlier in the year, he’s back to do what he does best—entertain his fans, who go wild the moment he steps on stage. It was a fun-filled and emotional evening.

The second song in the set was Grace. At the front, a fan held up a sign reading: “We love the song Grace so much we’ve named our dog after it.” Lewis noticed, pointed to them, and smiled.

“It’s great to be back home in Aberdeen , even though I’ve never actually lived here. I meant Scotland,” he said. “This is my first gig in Scotland in two years. Last time I was here, about seventeen people fainted. So if anything like that happens again tonight, please help each other.”
He then introduced three new songs, starting with Almost, which went down well with the crowd.
Bruises was the first big singalong of the night.

When fans arrived, they were each given a wristband. During Something in the Heavens, the wristbands lit up, flashing in sync across the arena. Ten thousand wrists glowing in different colours song after song created a breathtaking sight.

One of the most moving moments came with The Day I Die, a deeply personal song written during a low period in his life. It struck an emotional chord with the audience.
*
All in all, it was a wonderful evening—full of laughter, emotion, and singalongs. Most of all, it was great to see Lewis back where he belongs: on stage, performing.
