There comes a point in life where you realise two things; First… your dice collection has outlived several D&D editions and mobile phones. And second… the games that shaped you never really stopped mattering…..
So, we are pleased to tell you good people about something new that is soon to appear on the 5D Pop Culture YouTube channel.
Press Start Again, will be a new ongoing series exploring tabletop and video games with experience, perspective, and long-term enjoyment firmly in mind.
*
So let me tell you what we’re planning here at 5D Pop Culture.
It’s a proposed YouTube playlist — and a wider space on the website — built for tabletop and video gamers of a certain vintage and age.
*
Now, when I say “of a certain age”, I’m talking loosely.
Fifties, sixties, forties… or anyone who remembers when manuals were thick, save systems were a collection of dozens of floppy discs, and imagination did most of the heavy lifting. But make no mistake — everyone is welcome. This isn’t a velvet-rope club. It’s a comfortable chair by the fire.
*
*
This series will look at new TTRPG and video game releases alongside thoughtful revisits to classic systems, retro titles, and long-loved favourites. Some episodes will focus on modern products and tools; others take a step back to examine what is still relevant, what’s changed for the better, and why certain games continue to matter years — sometimes decades — later.
*
Press Start Again is designed especially with older gamers and returning players in mind, but let me repeat myself once again – it is very much open to everyone. Whether you’ve never stopped playing, are picking the hobby back up after a break, or are simply curious about gaming’s past and present, you’re welcome here.
*
Also, this isn’t a hype-driven series.
There are no rankings, outrage cycles, or rushed verdicts. There will be no ‘5 games we hate’, or ‘My D&D DM horror stories’. Instead, the focus is on thoughtful discussion, honest reflection, and an appreciation for how games evolve — and endure. Clickbait shickbait.
*
Crucially, this is a community-led project.
Suggestions, memories, recommendations, and respectful disagreements are all encouraged. If there’s a Table Top system you loved, a game you never quite clicked with, or a modern release you’re unsure about, we’d love to hear from you.
The first entries in Press Start Again will appear very soon on the 5D Pop Culture website and YouTube channel, with new episodes added regularly.

What the Playlist Is About
The core idea is simple. This playlist will celebrate where we’ve been, where we are now, and why it all still matters.
On one hand, we’ll be looking at new TTRPG and video game products:
- Reflective reviews of new TTRPG and video game releases
- Revisited classics, retro systems, and long-standing favourites
- Interviews with industry creatives and leaders
- Then-and-now comparisons of mechanics, design, and accessibility
- Considered opinions shaped by long-term play
- A welcoming space for older gamers, returning players, and the curious
- Community-driven topics, suggestions, and shared memories
But again, — and this is just as important — we’ll be diving headfirst into nostalgia but also into the present and future..
*
This isn’t about ranking everything or chasing outrage.
It’s about revisiting, reflecting, and occasionally asking:
“Was this actually brilliant… or were we just younger and had better eyesight?”……Sometimes the answer is both
Pull up a chair.
Roll the dice.
