Razer Prime Day Deals: Five Temptations for the Forever Geek

Prime Day is coming, which means there is once again a perfectly respectable reason to start looking at the gaming setup and saying, “Well… I suppose that could do with upgrading.”

Of course, we all know how this works for me….and I know I’m not alone…I start by having a quick look…..Then I notice a mouse is discounted……Then a keyboard…..Then a headset. And before I know it, I’m sitting here surrounded by enough RGB lighting to guide aircraft into Aberdeen Airport.

Oh, and then there’s the ‘better to ask forgiveness than permission’ dance that I have to do with my wife…….

Thankfully, Razer has a rather tempting selection of gear lined up for Prime Day, with some particularly chunky discounts on the table. We’ve had a look through the offers and picked out five that caught our Forever Geek eye.

Razer Basilisk V3 – £28.99

Was £69.99 – 58.6% saving

Let’s start with one of those offers that makes you do a genuine double-take.

The Basilisk V3 is dropping to a suggested £28.99, compared with an MSRP of £69.99. That’s a saving of almost 60%, and suddenly a decent gaming mouse becomes a rather inexpensive way of giving your setup a bit of an upgrade.

The Basilisk has long been aimed at gamers who like a little more control and customisation than you get from a basic mouse. Its ergonomic shape, programmable controls and scroll wheel make it particularly appealing for anyone who plays a mixture of genres rather than spending their entire gaming life clicking heads.

And let’s be honest, that’s rather appropriate for this here Forever Geek.

One minute you’re playing an RPG, the next you’re managing an empire, followed by three hours of investigating something unspeakably unpleasant in a tabletop virtual environment…… or as in my case right now, replaying Baldur’s Gate 3 for the umpteenth time to find that one side quest that I’ve never played.

At £28.99, this is arguably one of the easiest upgrades on the list to justify.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) – £99.99

Was £199.99 – 50% saving

A good headset is one of those bits of gaming kit that you don’t fully appreciate until you go back to an ordinary pair of headphones.

The BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) is being offered at a suggested £99.99, exactly half its listed £199.99 MSRP.

And this is where things get interesting for anyone who uses their gaming setup for more than gaming. The BlackShark V2 Pro is designed as a wireless gaming headset, making it a particularly attractive option for anyone who wants to lose a few cables from the desk while still having proper gaming audio and voice communication.

For RPG players, that can mean everything from hearing the subtle details of a game soundtrack to communicating with your party without sounding like you’re transmitting from a submarine.

And if you’re spending your evenings wandering around Baldur’s Gate, the Lands Between or whatever eldritch corner of the gaming multiverse you’ve currently fallen into, good audio matters.

£99.99 for a headset with a listed MSRP of £199.99 is a substantial Prime Day reduction.

Razer BlackWidow V3 Mini HyperSpeed – £59.99

Was £179.99 – 66.7% saving

Now we’re talking.

The BlackWidow V3 Mini HyperSpeed has the biggest percentage saving of our five picks, with the suggested Prime Day price falling from £179.99 to just £59.99.

That’s a 66.7% saving.

The V3 Mini is a compact keyboard, making it particularly interesting for anyone who has discovered the eternal problem of modern gaming desks:

There is never enough room…….

A smaller keyboard frees up valuable mouse space without abandoning the mechanical keyboard experience. That’s useful for gaming, but also for anyone who has a desk covered in microphones, tablets, notebooks, dice, coffee cups and the occasional miniature that has somehow migrated there. Oh, and my cat………she’s always there…..snooping. Waiting.

The particular offer listed is the UK-layout model with Yellow switches, so UK Forever Geeks don’t need to start wondering why all the keys have suddenly moved house.

At £59.99, this is a seriously interesting proposition for anyone looking to move to a compact mechanical keyboard without spending a small fortune.

Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro – £69.99

Was £149.99 – 53.3% saving

There are some gaming mice that seem to achieve almost legendary status, and the DeathAdder has been one of those names in the Razer family for years.

The DeathAdder V3 Pro takes that familiar formula and gives it the modern wireless treatment.

For Prime Day, the suggested price is £69.99, down from an MSRP of £149.99. That’s a saving of more than half.

The DeathAdder’s appeal is its straightforward approach. This isn’t a mouse trying to be your entire gaming command centre. It’s about providing a comfortable, high-performance gaming mouse that you can pick up and get on with.

And sometimes that’s exactly what you want. No faffing. No wondering which button you accidentally programmed to launch something.

At £69.99, the DeathAdder V3 Pro looks like a particularly attractive option for anyone wanting to step up to a premium gaming mouse without paying the usual premium price.

Razer Viper V3 Pro – £94.99

Was £159.99 – 40.6% saving

Finally, we have something for the competitive gamers and mouse enthusiasts.

The Viper V3 Pro is being offered at a suggested £94.99, compared with an MSRP of £159.99.

That’s a saving of 40.6%.

The Viper range has developed a reputation for concentrating on lightweight, high-performance gaming, and the V3 Pro is very much aimed at people who care about precision and responsiveness.

For the Forever Geek who takes their competitive gaming seriously — or simply likes having rather lovely hardware on their desk — this is one of the more interesting premium options in the Prime Day selection.

It is, admittedly, more expensive than the Basilisk and DeathAdder picks. But that’s rather the point. The Basilisk is the tempting bargain. The DeathAdder is the established all-rounder. The Viper V3 Pro is the “I’ve decided my mouse deserves to be taken very seriously” option.

And sometimes we all deserve a little ridiculousness.

So… which one caught our eye?

There are plenty of other Razer products included in the Prime Day offers, from the Kraken V4 at a suggested £78.39 to the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL at £104.99, as well as microphones, controllers and additional keyboards and mice. But these five stood out because they cover rather different types of Forever Geek.

Want a cheap and cheerful upgrade? Basilisk V3.

Need a serious headset? BlackShark V2 Pro.

Want to reclaim some desk space? BlackWidow V3 Mini.

Looking for a premium mouse without paying full whack? DeathAdder V3 Pro.

And if you’re after something built with performance firmly in mind? Viper V3 Pro.

Of course, there is always the other option…….Do absolutely nothing…..Keep the existing setup…..Save the money…..Be sensible.

Yes. We’re not doing that, are we?
