House of the Seven Gables is an encounter-based scenario for Call of Cthulhu set on New England’s coast near Salem Town in 1690. It involves the investigators arriving from England on assignment from King William III to investigate a second-generation family led by a mysterious patriarch, Piers Newton. In just under a year, this unknown family has created a bustling new mercantile business that has quickly overtaken the other traders in the town. As a result, Newton’s Mercantile is quickly getting a reputation for having some of the finest and rarest goods worldwide.

Along with this thriving business, the family recently built a massive mansion called the House of Seven Gables on the outskirts of town. The King wants to discover where all this new wealth comes from and why the tax collector’s records don’t reflect the Newtons’ new hoard.

The scenario includes investigation and athletic activity and should challenge investigators both physically and mentally. It requires a group of four to six investigators with a diverse blend of occupations, including experts in the fields of ancient lore, investigation, interrogation, and accounting.

The investigators arrive in Salem Town after a long voyage from England, with the King expecting some quick investigation results. Instead, they will have to navigate through the town as they search for clues and interview people who know the area, particularly the Newton family. As they dig deeper into the Newtons’ wealth and power, it becomes clear that this mystery has deeper layers, including Occult activity hidden away with a global ambition. As more information becomes clear, the investigators realize that the clock is ticking towards something genuinely horrifying.
