Every year local music promoter Aberdeen Gig Promotions puts together an amazing line up for a Christmas gig of Scottish Bands. This year it included: Shambolics, Stanley Odd, VLURE, Kapil Seshasayee, Parliamo, Medicine Cabinet, Pretty Preachers Club and was hosted by music legend Vic Galloway.
*
I must admit I had not heard of many of them before but two friends got very excited at the mention of Medicine Cabinet in the run up to the evening. It is a great opportunity to hear some new music, and a very decent price for 7 different bands.

Ross Calder is the man behind AGP and his passion for music comes through in their line ups, this one really seemed to have something for everyone. Pretty Preachers Club sang about her girlfriend; Medicine Cabinet were kooky and cool; Parliamo seemed to have brought their party posse up from Perth; Kapil Seshasayee features a flute and has a unique Indian sound; VLURE have mental dance tunes that will not leave your feet still; Stanley Odd are rapping oddities of the bestest kind and the Shambolics….well they really got the mosh pit going.

I even found myself in it with Vic Galloway, who did a diamond job of hosting – in between posing for selfies with star struck fangirls like me!! I had loved the Rip It Up Exhibition he’d been involved in all about Scottish pop music.

The Tunnels is one of the unsung heroes of Aberdeen venues, with some of my favourite music memories being from in there, so its great for this kind of event – not too hot, great sound guys, decently priced drinks and friendly staff. Wherever you are in the tunnel you can see and its got two different levels so if you want to be right up to the stage you can, or if you prefer to stand back near the bar you can – and everywhere you can hear the music perfectly. I was up the back for much of the evening but then went down the front for the Shambolics and both locations were ace in different ways.
*
Certainly a night to remember – and I’ve already been checking out future AGP gigs. One regular customer even got a 4 pack of his favourite cider to thank him for his constant presence, not many music promoters are that caring of who buys their tickets!
