I have always loved the music of Bob Marley but of course there’s no way to see the real thing anymore, so when the chance to see a tribute act came up I jumped! The Entertainers run various tribute shows and I have enjoyed any attended. I am so glad I went to this one as it was a wonderful evening with lots of songs that I have grown up listening to.

The audience had a surprising number of the older generation. Growing up with a Granny who listened to Daniel O’Donnell and Scottish country music, this was quite an alternative Granny version for me! They were all loving it though, some even videoing bits with their phones. The merchandise stall looked like something from Camden Market with lots of brightly coloured t-shirts and bracelets with the Rastafarian flag colours which became synonymous with Bob Marley. Several people left at the end of the night with wooly hats in yellow, red and green.

I spent my honeymoon in Jamaica and one of my regrets is that we did not actually leave the hotel resort, spending the time on the golden sands and eating in the all inclusive restaurants. We did not get to see the real Jamaica, home of reggae music and I expect we could have had some amazing nights in the local bars listening to live reggae music. It did feel like I made up for it last night, singing and dancing along to some of those well-known songs. The musicians and singers were all fantastic as Marley’s Wailers. The two ladies who did the backing singing had a coordinated dance to every song, that was quite captivating to watch.

The singer came on wearing a long beanie hat, and then during one song let out his most glorious long dreadlocks, just to add to the imagery. The first half included No Woman No Cry, Jammin’ and so many other hits you started to wonder what could possibly be left for the second half. After the interval it was straight into Buffalo Soldier and you realise you under estimated the hit list of the late and great Bob Marley. It certainly was a night to remember.
