Support for the evening was provided by Kerr Mercer, a young chap from Glasgow.  His first few songs, including Someone Else’s Arms, were singing along to a keyboard and then he moved to playing his guitar for the last song.  His voice didn’t match his appearance but it was a flawless performance which was very enjoyable to listen to.  I hope to see him again!  Next up was Lost Alone, an English band with the lead singer called Steven who liked to talk about himself in the third person.  They tried very hard to get the audience participating with hands in the air and things to yell or sing. They had a great enthusiasm and played several songs including G.U.I.L.T.Y., Hostages and I’m A Fire That You Can’t Put Out.  Steven had a snazzy looking custom made guitar that he commissioned due to an obsession with the musical Les Misérables.

Whilst the stage was prepared for McFly they played a few epic tunes to get everybody in the mood.  This had everyone singing along, arms in the air, having a whale of a time!  First up it was Bohemian Rhapsody, then Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer and finally the classic YMCA, before the curtain dropped and onto the stage came our four much awaited gentlemen.

McFly absolutely rocked the house with their Power to Play set.  It was a sold out concert and we were pressed up against the walls!  Even over to the side I was overjoyed to be that close to these marvellous musicians as previously whenever I’ve seen them its been in a huge arena and sometimes they’ve just been dots on a stage.  The Music Hall is a fabulous venue for a more intimate experience.  Everybody was having a whale of a time, the atmosphere in the room was just electric!  They did a mixture of old and new songs, including One for  the Radio, Route 55, Star Girl, Happiness, and my absolute favourite – Honey I’m Home.

A very lucky lady called Bethany was invited up on the stage to play a cowbell for Everybody Knows.  She had the time of her life and did a great job!  I spoke to her at the end of the night, as she clutched the signed cowbell she was given as a memento, certainly a night she will remember for a long time.  Hilarious that Danny picked her out of the crowd only to realise she was wearing a Tom t-shirt, as I said to her I bet there’s not many people with a Tom t-shirt that has been hugged by Tom himself!  At one point Danny appeared in the middle of the audience with a big plastic microphone, much to the excitement of everyone around him.  He did eventually get back onto the stage, but has since put a story on Instagram looking for a dentist, apparently we broke him during Red!!  Oops, sorry Danny!!  Please still come back!

The band have such an awesome energy and connection with each other, they just looked like they were having the most fun up on stage, whilst the audience were obviously doing the same.  Each of the band members waved to or spoke to people in the audience in between songs and totally engaged with everyone.  Towards the end they asked if anyone had been at their first gig in Aberdeen in 2007.  I’d saw them first in Glasgow support Busted but I do not think I was at the gig in Aberdeen.  I have since seen them about three times an Aberdeen, and in Glasgow again playing with Busted, as McBusted.  They have really grown as a band through the years, becoming more rocky than pop, but they fit this role perfectly and are just absolutely fabulous.

I may be biased as a long-term fan but I thought this gig was one of the most brilliant nights and their best performance yet.  I did go to the stage door in the hope of catching a glimpse of them, but as we came around the building there were screams as they jumped onto their tour bus.  We waved them off and I blew them kisses, which they totally deserved after working their little butts off on stage giving us the time our lives.  All in all a brilliant night, if only it could have lasted forever!
